Contact: [email protected]
Responsible for this website, the demo, the contact form and the operator's own courses. For courses of other institutions, see below.
Submitted translations
The lecturer imports the submitted translations. Names are not carried over: each translation appears under a letter (A, B, C …), and in the file copies author names and document properties are replaced with that letter. Comments that students left in their own file are imported without names. The content is reachable only through the secret course link and is not released to search engines. The data are deleted as soon as they are no longer needed for the course.
Courses and legal basis
The operator's own courses: the processing serves to teach a course within a teaching assignment at Leipzig University. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(e) and (3) GDPR in conjunction with § 15(1) SächsHSG (conduct of studies). Data are deleted earlier on request.
Courses of other institutions: when another university or educational institution uses LiveCAT, it is the controller for its course's data. It sets the purpose, legal basis and retention periods and explains them in its own privacy notice. The operator processes these data only on its behalf and on its instructions (Art. 28 GDPR). Please send questions about such a course to the institution; questions sent to the operator are passed on to it.
Comments, name and avatar
Anyone who opens a course gets a random animal and color; both can be changed, and a display name is optional. Avatar and display name are stored on the server so that the others see them next to selections and comments. Comments are visible to everyone who has the course link. Your own comments can be edited and deleted in the same browser; the lecturer can delete any comment. Comments are deleted together with the course, avatars without comments 30 days after the last visit. In the public demo all texts are invented; comments left there are deleted every night (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Live features
So that everyone can see where the others are reading, the current position, a selection and “Show everyone” highlights are held only in the server's memory and passed on to the other participants. They are not stored and disappear as soon as the page is closed.
Storage in the browser
The browser stores only what is technically necessary: a random identifier with a secret key (so that your own comments are recognized), the chosen avatar with its display name, the interface language and whether the introduction has been shown. For the lecturer, a sign-in cookie is added. The legal basis is § 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG. There is no tracking and there are no analytics or advertising services; the fonts are served from this site as well.
Contact form
Anyone who uses the contact form submits their email address and the message. These data are stored and forwarded by email in order to answer the request (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR), and deleted once they are no longer needed for that purpose.
Access data and hosting
When the site is accessed, technically necessary connection data (e.g. IP address, time, requested address) are processed so that the page can be delivered securely (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; legitimate interest: stable and secure operation).
Hosting: Hetzner Online GmbH (Deutschland).
Service providers
All traffic passes through the network of Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., USA), which delivers the site and protects it against attacks. Cloudflare processes the transmitted data as a processor; data may be transferred to the USA in the process. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (European Commission adequacy decision of 10 July 2023); EU standard contractual clauses apply in addition.
Messages from the contact form are delivered by email through: Hetzner Online GmbH, Deutschland.
Your rights
Data subjects may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability, and may object to processing. They also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
